Harold PawWord Story
Hey Mom,
Had quite the day in Spencerville, a real dog’s life (and I wouldn’t have it any other way). We ditched the regular Chow Hound Café breakfast for a wild trip to the East Pug Palace. Quite the detour – adventures in the Howling Husky Hardware Store, beach run at Red Beagle, and oh, the fine cuisine! But, realizing there’s more comfort in familiar chaos, we’re back to Westie Woods’ serenity. Remember: if it’s food and adventure, count me in. If it’s far from my bed, forget it!
Love,
Harold the Hound
“Life in Spencerville. Jeez, I mean, what’s not to love? It’s pure canine nirvana is what it is.”
Okay, I don’t really speak in Woody Allenese. I swear this is only for the sake of storytelling. Now, lemme’ set the scene.
“Mornings usually start just west of the Chow Hound Café. Me and the gang, stuffing our muzzles with god-knows-what. The smell alone drives us mad. I’d eat a vegetarian polar bear if it was on the Chow Hound’s menu.”
One day, we decide to do something different – a journey to the uncharted East Pug Palace. For reasons beyond my comprehension as a dog – something that opens a world of new experiences, and I feel something similar to the dread I feel in the Vet’s office, but it’s also kind of… exciting?
Our motley crew (including the cats, who contrary to popular belief, can keep up, much to my dismay) took off with the sun warming our backs. “We looked like a psychedelic canine troupe, the kind you’d expect to see in one of those surrealist paintings on a gluten-free cracker box.”
From braving the chaotic Howling Husky Hardware Store (I mean, if there’s anything more confusing than a squeaky toy that doesn’t squeak, it surely must be dog-sized power tools) to running down the sandy coastlines of the Spotted Red Beagle Beach, we were on the move. “And in between these escapades, the cuisine! Oh, the K9 Kebabs, the Bark ‘n’ Roll – it’s like they have a sixth sense for my gastronomical cravings.”
Despite the thrill, I missed the serenity of the Westie Woods, with the ever-present aroma of bacon from the Bark ‘n’ Roll teasing our noses, just enough to add that hint of comfort to our homesickness. But you know, there are no therapists for dogs that get anxious about change, so I did what any mildly anthropomorphic, suburbanized dog would do – I carried on.
We made it to East Pug Palace, gazing at its grandeur, feeling somewhat victorious; yet the feeling was faintly overshadowed by home’s pull. “We promised ourselves, no more these philosophical journeys for a while. Let’s get back to our usual hijinks around the Chow Hound Café, and more importantly, our warm, soft beds.”
I mean stepping out of comfort zones – and by zones, I’m talking about places where food flows freely – it’s dubious, really. To be honest, I’ll stick to my food exploits, my forest hikes, and beach escapades. I mean, after all, my existence in Spencerville is indeed a human-like bliss. Where else could a canine live such an adventurous existence with complete freedom to be…well, a dog?
And so, in Woody Allen style, on we trot back home, under the same Spencerville sky, tails wagging in triumph. “We were, and always will be, harmoniously mismatched heroes of our own story – quite the perfect piece of canine chaos.”
The End.
