Our tale commences at the break of dawn in the kaleidoscopic utopia that is Spencerville. An uncanny stillness hangs in the air today, something that isn’t favored by the league of the extraordinary canines that inhabit this place. Chief among them are Reo and Jasper, the two mavericks who’ve decided to embark on a chaotic expedition that Spencerville won’t easily forget. Reo, the feisty Chihuahua, is in no mood for the usual routine of lounging around the Brindle Brown Boxer Beach or fine dining at the Bark ‘n’ Roll. Today, he has his leathery ears pricked for a spontaneous adventure. Jasper, the Jack Russell mix, who’s always one for the thrill of the chase and the sense of the wind blowing through his Florida-mapped coat, seconds Reo’s call. Throwing restraint to the winds, they leap towards Reo’s bucket of bolts, a Mini Cooper – left behind in Spencerville for the pets by an owner with a keen sense of humor. It was always up for a drive, much like Reo, who looked at it like a portal to escape the confines of their usual turf.

The good-hearted Jasper knew the drill, settling down in the backseat, making himself comfortable. Reo, on the other hand, took one last look at the dreaded bodies of water and shiny vacuums before tossing his feared objects to the wind. ‘To hell with you,’ he seemed to bark as he ambled into driver’s seat, his life-long quest for supremacy fulfilled. With the town receding in their rearview mirror, their journey leads them beyond the boundaries of Spencerville and into the great unknown. The air vibrated with the excitement of adventure, even as the specter of uncharted territories lay ahead. Gas stations, diners, fellow road-trippers, all passed by in a whirl. Jasper barked in approval as he lapped up the wind caressing his fur, while Reo constantly sniffed out the landscape, his jet-black nose working overtime. They’d stop every now and then, Reo appeasing Jasper’s fondness for mountains and forests, he himself sticking to drier patches of land. They’d feast on lavish spreads laid out by restaurants bearing names like Whiskers and Wings; Jasper indulging his taste for jerky-type treats while Reo, stubborn as he was, held out for his favorite crinkly packets of comfort food. In a world away from vacuums and water bodies, of familiar faces like Daisy and Daphne, and their beloved haunts like the Barking Boutique and Pupperoni pizza, Reo and Jasper set about rewriting doggy lore. A chaotic, wise, indomitable pair, discovering Land, Life, and the Pursuit of Happiness on their own terms. Their faces hard, their tales wagging to the rhythmic beats of their shared road song. By the time they pulled back into town, their story had already taken up a life of its own.

Spencerville was awash with the tales and anecdotes of their legendary road trip. Stories passed on from mutt to pup, tales that would torment their siblings -Chiquita, Colonel, Angel and Daphne- with a pang of envy. And so, ends the tale of two free-spirited, wild-at-heart dogs, whose spirits couldn’t be caged by four walls or a picket fence. Their uncanny journey left behind a sonic boom of canine rebellion that still resonates in the heart of Spencerville. They drove, they discovered, they returned – a road trip parallel to none.
