Brutus Bulldog PawWord Story
Hey Dad, y’know how I was all lonely ‘coz Rocky’s gone? I almost hung out with those shady Spencerville mutts! But suddenly, had my paws full with this new scruffy runt, Caesar. Even got greens snuck into my bowl! WOOF! Still, having a pal’s worth it, even if it means shared baths. Later, Brute.
These days in Spencerville, Brutus Bulldog and I always had our paws full. Fetching Feline Emporium just launched a new line of gourmet rawhide bones and, of course, I had to keep my chap lured with those. He’d been pestering me quite a lot these days – keeps telling me how empty the backyard is without Rocky.
Oh, he did love his social shenanigans. Oddly enough, it came down on me to adopt that mutt because Brutus can’t bear being alone. Terribly frightened of vacuums too, the big wuss! Pass a Hoover by him and he would bolt upright into Bullmastiff Boardwalk, refusing to return until sundown. Such a petulant mule!
One day, I caught him eyeing up the Spencerville ruffian gang. This was no Western Husky Hill picnic, could have easily turned into a full-blown hair-raising dogfight. These fearsome mutts have been known to play mind tricks around here, and poor trusting hunks like Brutus were easy pickings. I knew Brutus was feeling the pinch of loneliness biting, but I couldn’t let him chuck his chips in with this lot – nothing but knavery and chase of the tail there.
Taking things into my own hands, I brought home a scruffy moppet of a canine from the Pawsitively Purrfect Pet Store and Spa named Caesar. Brutus was intrigued from the start. I saw a glimmer in the brutish eyes, a chance for companionship or perhaps just the glimmer of twilight’s fading sun. The stubborn lad wouldn’t admit it, but he was soft for that runt, and of course, bath time remained a two-man job. Unsure if it was the cold bath water or the word ‘cat’ that sent Brutus into a frenzy, we had our plates full either way.
Caesar did manage to pull a fast one on Brutus at dinner time, though. Sneaked veggies into Brutus’ bowl and the silly oaf chomped them right down. Talk about tables turning! Still, if there’s one thing we’ve learned here in fishy Spencerville, it’s that the days can bemusedly flow between Tail Waggers and Pup-Peroni until the quiet synchronic evening shadows the stomping brute. It’s always a bit of a gambol in paradise, especially with a cheeky English bulldog along for the ride. But it’s worth it – it’s always worth it.
The End.
