Gus PawWord Story
“Hey Mum, had fun at the beach, chased Beanbones, and swam a bunch! Had pies for breakfast, lunch, dinner – still hate watermelon. Been playing poker with the gang, aiming for the Spencerville’s top dog title. Wish me luck! Chat soon. – Gus the Destroyer”
Why, there are stories to be had everywhere in this land of ours – tales of determination, of courage, of stubborn bulldogs with a distinct distaste for melons. Take our mate Gus, an English bulldog with a heart as adventurous as any pet in Spencerville. He carries the unmistakable marks of his breed – that tan body of his, interrupted only by a stark white stripe running down his head, a playful yet stubborn spirit…He’s as Spencervillian as the Golden Gate Gardens!
‘Tis a tale well-known how Gus loved anything by Beanbone, anything. Throw a beanbone in the air and he would give chase, his stubby little legs defying gravity like only a bulldog’s can. But throw him in a pool? By heaven, you’ve unleashed the beast. In all fairness, it ain’t everyone’s cup of tea.
Oh, yes. Our friend Gus has got his preferences. While others may slumber at the Greyhound Grove or dine on exquisite viands at Bark and Bites, Gus was always more of a beach bulldog. Give him Red Beagle Beach any day, but oatmeal cream pies is his real delight. Head to Ruff-n-Ready or Chow Hound Café and he’d have them, pies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But offer him a watermelon? Heavens no! The likes never seen before in this pet paradise.
Now, it’s a strange thing in Spencerville, to not like the company of adults. But such is Gus – always first among puppies, his nature leans more towards frolicking with his band of playmates, dogs of all breeds and sizes. There’s never a dull moment in their adventures among the gorgeous views of the Golden Gate Gardens, their rough-housing across the length and breadth of our seaside town.
That’s where I’ve been meaning to lead this tale. The poker games of wits between Gus and his doggie compatriots. For the throne of Spencerville is no easy seat to claim. It’s no secret that there’s a rivalry brewing that might possibly shake the foundations of our peaceful land. The four-legged will to power, each aiming for the floating bone thrown by unseen hands. Who will emerge victorious?
Ah, but that is a story for another day. Who am I to meddle in Bullpug affairs? As the sun sets over the Red Beagle Beach, I leave you wondering, will our dear friend Gus claim the throne? If only we could ask himself. But as they say in Spencerville, “Every pet owner has a story, and every dog… Well, they’re just waiting to tell it”.
