Baxter PawWord Story
“Hey there, missing you terribly, but us dogs in Pawsburg got our own hustle going on. Tail Waggers’ chicken is good, but your dinner is a royal treat. Stumbled upon a grand adventure today with my one good eye and trusty nose. Daisy was dog-napped! But fear not, Little Man Baxter turned Dog-tective and saved the day! Long story short, against all odds, we’re safe and sound. Can’t wait to wag my tale for you, but till then keep your love coming, lady! Woof, Baxter.”
“Wake up, sweetheart,” her soft, gentle voice echoes in my ears and my one good eye flicks open. I look up, finding her beautiful face stretched in a sleepy smile. My human mother; my best friend. I give her a sloppy kiss on her cheek, eliciting a soft laugh from her. My tail wags with joy, but there’s a sense of anxiety that permeates the air. She’s leaving town. I pick up on the hustle and bustle warming up outside. I can smell the change approaching, the distinct scent of her luggage.
Once she leaves, I turn my attention to the silent room around me. It’s going to be a bit sad and lonesome here. I loathe being alone. But it’s time I retreat to Pawsburg, a town of my own kind, a place complete with restaurants and shops catered for us canines.
With my lamb-shaped toy tucked underneath my paw, I sneak off through the tiny crack beneath the fence. My tiny size giving me an advantage over my bigger buddies.
Pawsburg, my salvation when the loneliness becomes too burdensome. First, I head to Tail Waggers, the local dog diner; The aroma of grilled chicken piquing my interest. No broccoli, thank dog. The munching of meat among social banter of fellow canines is a solace unlike any. A welcome distraction from the silence of the empty house.
But today, something unusual destined my way. Right there, in broad daylight, on the sands of the Brown Boxer Beach. A dog-napping unraveled in front of my singular eye. A great Dane named Daisy, the sweetheart of Pawsitively Purrfect Pet Store, had gone mysteriously absent. My investigative nose sniffs something fishy.
Daisy had enemies – envy her successful store, some feared her towering size. Disappearance was quite a serious incident in our quiet Pawsburg. I decided to take matters into my own paws.
I spend my day snooping around, following clues and interrogating the denizens of Upper Collie Canyon. Pawsburg, despite its serene outside, hides some dark secrets. Undeterred, I press on, my singular eye peeled for any possible clue. The rain begins to tap ominously against the leafy canopies, sending a mild shiver through me. Vacuum cleaners and now this. Maybe I’m more of a scaredy-cat than a dog.
During my detective escapades, I learned many things. But most importantly, I learned about bravery and camaraderie. And Daisy wasn’t just a victim but a brave dame who had made some tough calls. Times of adversity discovering heroes in the most unexpected places. Case in point: me, one-eyed, slightly timid Baxter turned Dog-tective.
After some digging and sniffing in every corner of Pawsburg, I managed to scare out the culprits. They were a gang of feral cats from the outskirts, seeking revenge on Daisy. My heart pounded in my chest as I realized the stakes. But, I was ready to confront them, with the help of my trusty pals at The Doggie Daycare.
We confronted the feral gang on the outskirts and made quite a scene. Even with one eye and my slight frame, I stood my ground. Barks and hisses echoed through the night, a loud, unending chaos. But we were united, and that was an unbeatable force.
I wish my human mom could’ve seen me – tiny Baxter leading the pack, doing something as daring as saving Daisy. Something she’d chuckle at, but oh, she’d be so proud.
After a night of scare and adventure, dawn rolled in – Daisy was safe, and the feral gang was dealt with. I rolled back into my house, exhausted but exhilarated. The first light of dawn met my tired but triumphant eye. Dawn in Pawsburg, a dog’s town; the quiet, serene town wasn’t quiet or serene anymore, not after last night.
Safe to say, that day was anything but ordinary. But looking back, the loud purrs of that vacuum cleaner don’t seem so scary anymore. I think I’ve gotten braver. As I lay there tired and proud, I found a sense of happiness, a sense of love for my Pawsburg. This was my town, my home, my Pawsburg.
I closed my eye, the soft hum of the returning city life lulling me into deep slumber. What an adventure it had been. A crime in Pawsburg, quite a thrilling tale to narrate, if only dogs could talk! Wait until mom hears this. She’d probably roll her eyes and pat me, completely oblivious to the dark tangle of adventure her dog had untwirled in the last 24 hours. But for now, I dreamt, with my lamb-shaped toy under my paw, for tomorrow was another day to live and love in Pawsburg.
The End.
