Wrigley PawWord Story
Hey Mom,
It’s Wrigley Roo here! Imagine life as a waggy-tail philosopher, a chicken liver nibbler, bird-chasing daredevil, and mastermind of canine capers in Spencerville. You’d be me, belly up to the sun, pals beside me, the wind whistling through the whispers of my barks. It’s a dog’s life, wouldn’t trade it for all the squeaky toys in the world. Nose boops till next time!
Wriggles.
My name, as it is known to some in the rather convivial town of Spencerville, is Wrigley. Now I’m not your run-of-the-mill pooch, a fact most would attest to. Me, a mixed breed, grinning from ear to floppy ear and wagging my long tail. I stand tall, my theology being “I look life squarely in the eyes and then give it a good sniff.”
Living in Spencerville, it’s not uncommon to be found at East Bulldog Bay giving the local birds a run for their tirades. Other times, under the shade of my favourite tree, I’ve laid plans to outsmart my friends – an adventure of the mind, you see. Oh, the games we play, a riveting world of canine mischief painted over with tales of tug-of-war. Squeaker toys didn’t stand a chance against my daring escapades, especially that dastardly duck and my trusty Kong.
Thoughts of my foodie delights make me feel all wobbly. Peanut butter, popcorn, pizza, an occasional egg… Saying that gets my tail going like a painter on roller blades. The only “Never mind, thank you” being blasted green beans.
There’s my friend Camden, a real whizz-pop at water sports. We’re all competitive in Spencerville, you know. My nemesis Glennie at agility hurdles, I appreciate her high jumps but it does make her tail a bit more whippy than it needs to be. Rain used to hamper my sporting ambitions, and no one could convince me to take a bath? Did they not understand baths are water too? Preposterous! But champs need their pea-brained influencers.
One made most memorable by Spencerville’s sports meet at Labradoodle Lake. Despite the carnage, or perhaps because of it, Glennie won the Frisbee dash. The rest of us participated in games of chase, hide-and-seek, and blind Pawsome Pancake tasting at Bone Appetit. Evenings were filled with lovely dinners at Bow Wow Burgers, filled with the sharing of tricks, and a collective appreciation for life, love, and the comfortable silence of having known and understood each other.
So there it goes, with all the vivacity of a Spencervillian pooch, I wag my tail, my tale, my adventure. A world packed full of waggly tales and furry friendships. I’ve got friends in my corner, sunshine on my belly, and if you ask me, which you didn’t but I’m telling you anyway – all that good grub makes for a rather splendid life. Neck deep into all these misadventures, laboured in love and clattering laughter, I tread on, nose to the ground, and tail to the sky. You see, I’m a dog with a plan and the plan is to keep wagging on.
The End.
