Bentley PawWord Story
Hey Dad,
Just another day as Spencerville’s furry Casanova! Scared some birds, looked snappy in tweed, avoided dunking in Collie Canyon, killed it at Bone Appetit’s lasagna. Fat Russell and I shook up Corgi Castle, rocking hats at Snooty Snout – mad laughs. Movie night at Yappy Yogurt with extra sausage, good times. Me and Spencerville, we’re a force of nature!
Woofs and licks,
Bubba
Yesterday, like most days in the good old Spencerville began like any other. Bentley, the dapper bully I know so well, and I had traditionally sized coffees, mine decaffeinated. Post-caffeinated inception, Bentley always likes to visit Bulldog Bay. It’s like he’s the mayor there, his loyal subjects being birds who keep trying to steal his Jolly Ball. Irrepressible those birds and Bentley with his playful growls and playful foot-thumping shows, they do add comedy to the proceedings.
After the ball-bird circus, it was off to The Tail Wagger’s Tailor for our semi-annual tweed purchase. Bentley’s got a thing for tweed. Thinks it makes him look smarter – he’s not wrong—the town Romeo. The ladies melt when he enters, his white streak shuddered with excitement. Loves tweed, does our Bentley, not quite so fond of the pool at the end of Collie Canyon though. Mention the word “swim” and he’ll give you a look that says “Nuh Uh! Not today, mate.”
Lunchtime. Bentley’s pick, as always – Bone Appetit. They do a lasagne that’s to die for and Bentley can positively growl ‘Garfield’. The chap’s got a remarkable palate. I often think if he hadn’t landed here in Spencerville, he’d have been a famous food critic, sniffing the aroma with his distinguished snout and surmising flavours with a few chewy gulps.
Afternoon saunters don’t come much better than ambling down to Corgi Castle with Fat Russell tagging along. Fat Russell and Bentley mean different thing to ‘play’, but they share such a camaraderie that War and Peace could get rewritten with their antics. The ladies of The Snooty Snout Boutique adore their visits. Hilarity ensues. Let’s just say there’s a considerable amount of tail-wagging and bouncy displays of fedora and sombrero hats that kick off the afternoons.
Finally, rounding off the day is our personal favourite, the movie nights, the heartening biography of some underdog’s great victory at Yappy Yogurt. Their caramel popcorn really does tickle your senses. Bentley prefers the exquisite taste of raspberry yogurt with a helping of plain sausages, the very thought of which makes his tail wag with uncontrollable enthusiasm. Probably, the only thing that surpasses it is the time when we would be together again, just him and me and no boundary of life to keep us apart. Antonio with his guitar, strumming to Bentley’s delighted earflaps fluttering in the wind.
And there you have it. Just an ordinary day off in the forever life of the extraordinary Bentley, in the fair and peaceful town of Spencerville, where the cycle of tails wagging, birds jesting, tweed adoring, swim loathing, spaghetti loving, hat bouncing and movie viewing goes on and on. Every day an adventure, every night a heart full of memories and the promise of our tomorrow. Doesn’t get better than that, does it?
The End.
