Hey Dad, it’s your ‘Teddy Bear’. Long story short: Pawsburg after dark: meaty sticks, scary water, doggie toys. Avoiding veggies, sand and a snooty poodle named Dazzle. Nightly escapades and raining cats and dogs. Turns out, Dazzle not so snooty. Rain, eh? Who would’ve thought? Might be love, yet another adventure for Hercules. Woof!

Well, there I was, sneaking off to Pawsburg in the dead of night, just like any other English Bulldog with a hunger for adventure. Hercules, they call me, and I fancy it suits – got a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? The moon hung low in the sky as I tiptoed, rather impressively for a chap my size, away from my humans. I’m sure you couldn’t possibly understand, but nights in Pawsburg – they are a hoot.

They’re a-whoopin and a-hollerin at Sniff ‘n’ Snack, a bustling joint where they serve these delectable meaty bully sticks. A slice of heaven, if you ask me. And The Pooch Playhouse, oh don’t even get me started. It’s practically a field day with all manner of toys to chew on, plenty of keys, by the way – pure ecstasy!

I might be a dog about town, but my paws tend to steer clear of Dog-gone Good BBQ – took a whiff of veggie kabobs once – nearly fainted on the spot, horrifying. And a luxury I dare not indulge at Red Beagle Beach – water as far as the eye can see. Puts me on edge, if I’m being honest.

Physical trials and tribulations aside, nothing quite shakes me like my own achilles heel – a gaudy poodle named Dazzle, manning the counter at Fetch! Toys and Treats. Snobby little thing. Wouldn’t know a good bulldog if one bit her tail.

But enough about me. This isn’t your average yarn where the rugged, burly Bulldog falls for the posh society poodle. This isn’t that kind of story because Dazzle isn’t that kind of poodle.

I’d see her sauntering around with that faux-diamond encrusted collar, fluff whiter than a fresh batch of clouds and a nose turned so high, you’d think she was trying to catch snowflakes. Each step she took was measured, purposeful. It might have been that very aloofness which piqued my interest.

The comedic twist, friends, was our shared disdain: we were both unanimously repelled by the same thing – rain. Oh, how it sent her scampering! From the safe confines of The Pooch Playhouse, I saw her – unfortunately stuck between Fur Tacos and Fetch! Toys and Treats. The heavens had decided to weep, great droplets forming treacherous puddles.

In that moment, venturing out into the rain didn’t seem so terrible. An unexpected rush of bravery surged within me, and before I knew it, I was charging across, towards her, a final dash to swoop under the nearby awning of Fetch! Toys and Treats.

“I really must commend your timing,” she uttered, fluff drenched and eyes sparkling with gratitude. I could only manage a dignified nod, masking my panting. This, I thought, might just be beginning of something quite unexpected – a romantic comedy, Bulldog and Poodle style.

And as fate would have it, I found myself embarking on nightly trips to Pawsburg not just for the toddy from Sniff ‘n’ Snack or the squeaky keys from The Pooch Playhouse, but for Dazzle’s company. We shared many a laugh, nuzzling under her fancy umbrellas and disparaging the poor choice of food at the Dog-gone Good BBQ.

Now here’s the thing about Pawsburg. Whether you’re into the chaos of the beach or the solitude of the woods, it’s all about adventure and letting your coat loose. And sometimes, if you’re like me, you might also find yourself tumbling headfirst into a romantic comedy. Touché, Pawsburg. Touché.
