Maximus PawWord Story
Hey Mom, it’s Max. Somehow sniffed out an illegal truffle trade happening in Upper Collie Canyon. Don’t freak out, but I’m onto an adventure! Oh and, by the way, they’re disguised as olive sellers – my contempt for olives finally paid off. Love, your Furball of Courage and Humor – Maximus.
As I hopped off the tanner Express, an unpretentious but timely bus serving the bustling shops and neat restaurant fronts of Spencerville, a vibrant wave of nostalgia swept over me. My eyes immediately focused on the Red Beagle Beach, glittering under the bright sun. The murmurs and barks were unmistakable- the Beach was in full swing, but somebody was missing – Maximus.
Our hefty furball of courage and humor, Maximus, was never one to shy away from the water. But that day his dominating presence was missing. Flashing images of the Bullmastiff’s dark snout diving for his favourite neon balls earlier, sent shivers down my spine. What if something terrible happened?
I scanned the nearby Dog-gone Good BBQ, his favorite haunt after a swim. I couldn’t see his tan coat among the crowd. No sign of him at the Best in Show Photography either, where he was once clicked for his famous “I’d do anything for meatballs” snap. Maximus’ absence was growing conspicuous.
Knowing Maximus’s uncanny perceptibility for trouble and his love for exploration, I did the first thing that came across – to warn Lil Dot and Roscoe Lonestar, his partners in crime – of his absence. After all, danger – a thrilling chase or a high-stakes cheer – was a day in their life.
As I rushed to The Pooch Playhouse, where they often lounged, a frantic Roscoe met me halfway. “He’s lost, isn’t he?” He rasped, visibly stressed, “Lil Dot smelt his trail towards Upper Collie Canyon. We think he sniffed out some illegal truffle trade.”
The gritty scent of danger permeated the air as we embarked on our mission, acknowledging a stark truth: Maximus’ latest adventure could be his most thrilling – and dangerous – yet. “Remember,” I muttered, “Ban D’ Olives. They’re disguised as olive sellers to keep their covers.” I could almost see Maximus cringe at the mention of olives, the one thing in the world he held in contempt. With a shared sense of unspoken resolve, we ventured into the Canyon, our every sense heightened.
They say Spencerville is where pets transition from a passing to an even more vibrant existence. But losing Maximus felt like a passing for me. It wrenched my heart, throwing me into a whirlpool of suspense and fear. The stakes were high, the danger palpable. If it were the last thing we did, we’d bring Maximus home. This was our town, they were our stories, and Maximus… he was our legend.
The End.
